A teenager accused of killing his great grandfather is locked up tonight.
The school district he attends will reopen classes tomorrow.
16 year old Cody Lee from Lake Township is a student at Lake Lehman high school.
The district cancelled classes as police searched for lee into Wednesday night and early Thursday morning. .
It's something at least one of his friends can't believe.
Amanda Fowble of Harveys Lake is friends with Lee and told Eyewitness News, "I see Cody and I'm like, oh my god, that's my friend and I'm freaking out because i knew he would never do something like that."
Fowble is a junior to Lake Lehman high school, where Lee goes as well.
The teenager is charged with gunning down his 80-year-old great-grandfather Herbert Lee here at their Lake Township home.
Police say he planned to kill his father, Scott Lee too, but dad wrestled the rifle away.
It's still sinking in for people living near the murder scene.
John Sentyz of Harveys Lake said, "I just don't know what's the matter with these kids today, they turn to something like that it's a shame, there's no reason for it."
Gary Evans of Lake Township said, "Oh yeah, the great grandfather. That's a strange deal and something that doesn't usually happen in this neighborhood."
Police say Lee went on the run for hours after the murder.
Lake Lehman school district canceled classes Thursday classes as police searched for lee well into the night.
He was arrested at about two Thursday morning.
Fowble says she's sure many in her school will still be in shock over the murder when they return to class Friday.
"Cody lee was a really good kid. He may have not been the best student at Lake Lehman but like he was a really good person."
Police say lee planned out this murder down to the detail.
They say lee had a notebook including plans to kill grandpa, dad and then get out of town with a friend. | | |
