Real Estate Company "99% Paper Free" - Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at 5:00PM EST
MOUNT POCONO, MONROE COUNTY - As you watch Vickie Brockelman in her office it looks like she's making photo copies, but she isn't. She uses the big loud machine to make scans.
Brockelman says her office is 99% paper free. She explained, "We're able to scan everything into our computers and send the documents without having to use any paper."
Brockelman owns Commonwealth Real Estate Your Way in Mount Pocono. After twenty years in the business, she noticed Realtors seemed to use more and more paper. She said, "It went just up and up and ip and up and up."
So when she opened her place she invested more than $80,000 to make a practically paper free environment. Realtor Craig Hackman said, "Everything we need is on our computer so we don't have to go digging through files or running around looking for misplaced files."
In addition to filing, the Realtors use the technology to show homes. In the past they used big real estate books and piles of printed photos. Now buyers look at homes on a screen. "It's very user friendly," remarked Brockelman.
"The office also saves paper by video conferencing. Since a lot of clients live out of the area - they are able to log on to the web - talk to their Realtor and see documents online. "The customer and the client - they are enjoying it," said Brockelman.
The company still uses paper for original contracts and consumer notices, but Brockelman plans to keep everything else digital for the sake of the planet and her children's future. She said, "If each one of us does something it's compounding." | | |
