SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY - Plans to reassess properties in Lackawanna County are on the back-burner.
County leaders say they just don't have enough money.
Commissioners estimate that it will cost an additional eight million dollars to finish the project that was started several years ago.
The last county-wide reassessment was done in 1973.
Experts think thousands of taxpayers are not currently paying what they should be. Some are overpaying, while others are underpaying.
"While we would like to get it done as soon as possible, it right now stands short about eight million dollars and that's eight million dollars we don't have," Commissioner Corey O'Brien said.
Lackawanna County has already spent three million dollars in the reassessment process since it began. | |
