SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, LYCOMING COUNTY- Fans and families are attending the 2008 Little League Baseball World Series in record numbers.
The single-day attendance record was broken this weekend. Actually, Little League organizers say smashed is more like it.
Top brass at Little League International had heard attendance would be down this year because of gas prices and the slowdown in the economy.
But attendance was up 9% this weekend. Perhaps it’s because families aren’t traveling as far and looking for cheap vacation options. Admission at the LLWS is always free and so is parking. That's been the policy from the start.
Even concession prices are in line. A family of 4 can buy a hot dog, French fries and soda for $16.
By the way, Little League International is the world’s largest organized youth sports program. | |
