POCONO TWP., MONROE COUNTY- Tourism officials say despite this economy it was a good winter for the Poconos. While fewer people than average stayed at hotels, more people than ever visited during day trips. And more travelers went skiing this season.

Jake Greenhaus has celebrated many white Christmases - but this is his first ever white birthday! "This is awesome. It's great. I never thought I'd be skiing on my birthday really," said Jake.

He celebrated his 25th birthday with his friend - Andrew Cerquiera - at Camelback in Pocono Township. "It actually seems pretty nice to be this late in the year. I'm very surprised to see snow on the ground up here," said Andrew.

Camelback has never stayed open this late into the year. Tuesday marked the 123rd day of this ski season. "Of course we've been open since 1963 so it's a pretty good legacy that we can measure it against," said Camelback Spokesperson Ricky Durst.

Durst said the cold winter combined with new snow gun technology helped extend the season. "The technology and the horse power we have out here - we can rival Mother Nature when it comes to snow making," he added.

Camelback's good news is also good news for local businesses - like this ski shop - The Loft. "Every little bit of business helps especially in the current economic climate," said The Loft’s John Reilly.

The long season also helps workers. About 100 camelback employees only work here during the winter. This gives them a little extra cash in the spring.

Camelback is offering late season ski specials. Wednesday you can get a lift ticket for just over $12.
