Red Flag Warning in Effect Today

Red Flag Warning in Effect Today - Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at 11:58AM EST

Brush fires in Northeastern and Central PA are under control for now but crews are bracing for another round of fires thanks to the hot, dry and breezy weather.
A Red Flag Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service until 8:00 P. M. today. It is for the eastern half of our area and means there is a high brush fire danger today. Any fire that does start could spread rapidly.

Fire crews have certainly been busy these last few days. Monday, in Butler Township, they battled the fire from the ground and air.

Firefighters worked around the clock since Saturday but did put the flames out. Jack Zborovian of the Bureau of Forestry said, "What we have this year is low humidity with high winds combined with short dry periods, but its enough to push a fire rapidly."

Yesterday brush fire smoke near Hazle Township even forced traffic on Interstate 81 down to one lane.
