HUNLOCK TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY -- A human skull found in Hunlock Township earlier this month has been identified as 18-year-old Jen Barziloski.

The Sweet Valley teen had been missing since 2001. Luzerne County District Attorney Jackie Musto Carroll made the announcement late this afternoon.

Bones were discovered by kids walking through the woods on April 2nd near Roaring Brook Drive. That launched an investigation by state police and the D. A.'s office.

A forensic anthropologist was called in to examine the remains. He found that some of the bones belonged to animals, but a human skull was also found. Dental records were used to identify Barziloski.

At this point the D. A.'s office will only classify the investigation as a missing person's case. They would not speculate on a cause or manner of death.

The family of 22-year-old Phylicia Thomas, missing since 2004, had speculated that the remains were of their missing daughter. The D. A. says they believe Thomas' body is still out there somewhere.

We'll have much more on this developing story as we get it.
