HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY- A Hazleton parish has lost a long time pastor and friend.

Over the weekend the Reverend Louis Garbacik passed away. Tuesday night family and parish members gathered at St. Stanislaus church for a vigil mass.

Parishioners say Father Garbacik was the heart and soul of their church. Even after his retirement, he remained active in the parish community, saying mass and helping with many church activities.

On December 26, Garbacik slipped and fell while salting the church's steps. He died on January 1st.

His funeral will be held Wednesday morning at St. Stan's Church in Hazleton.
