WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY -- Governor Rendell also nominated a pair of local lawyers to sit on the Luzerne County bench.

Rendell picked Lewis Wetzel of Dallas and Joseph van Jura from Kingston. They would take the positions of former judges Michael Toole and Peter Paul Olszewski, Jr. The state senate must confirm both nominees.

The governor also nominated former Wyoming Borough Police Chief John Gilligan as Luzerne County Sheriff. He'll take the place of former Sheriff Michael Savokinas.
