BLOOMSBURG, COLUMBIA COUNTY- Bloomsburg University is responding to a riot that broke out on campus last fall. A committee released the results of a review Monday night.
It studied previous problems during homecoming celebrations in order to prevent future issues. In November, police in riot gear used mace to break up a crowd at a dance.
People at the meeting say the solution to the violence isn't more security, it's embracing diversity across campus. Dr. Irvin Wright said, "We are working very hard to make sure people respect and support differences by introducing people with a different value system."
University President Dr. David Soltz said, "The most important I think has to do with the improving the overall climate on campus as Dr. Wright said and also dealing with security at these events and planned differently and letting these event be successful."
Bloomsburg's president encourages all students on campus to read the report released at the meeting.
