0/ 5 rating ASHLEY, LUZERNE COUNTY -- It's a Luzerne County apartment building plagued with problems. Eyewitness News first told you about it Friday evening. Saturday people living there faced eviction.
The building at 88 North Main Street in Ashley was condemned after the water was shut off. It's the latest issue tenants had to face. They say they've been living without heat and sewer service for weeks because the landlord failed to pay the utilities.
One woman who spoke to us has an elderly mom, plus a brother and cousin who lived in three individual apartments. As her relatives scrambled for a place to stay, she blasted the building's landlord. Cherie Savitski said, "I think he's a slumlord. Why would he put a 73-year-old woman out in the street? I mean that's just terrible. I mean even anybody. He should have just kept up on his bills. If he had done that he would have collected rent and everything."
The landlords, John and Bob Stack, do not live in this area. When contacted by phone, both men refused to discuss with us the problems surrounding their apartment building. | |
