STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY - Haiti still has a long way to go on its road to recovery. Some people in the Poconos want to make sure the earthquake victims are not forgotten. The Sarah Street Grill is hosting a fund raiser for the charity Hope for Haiti on Monday.

The Pocono Duo, Christian Porter, Tom Graham, Jim Roberti, Johnny Rydell, Bill Rooth, and Nadine and Brian, will all perform at the event. It starts at six Monday evening.

The cause is especially important to Nadine. Her family is from Haiti. They survived the quake but she didn't learn that until days after the disaster. She recalled, "What I tried to do myself is just keep the negative imagery away."

She and her husband were already working on a fund raiser for a Haiti school when the quake struck. Nadine said, "It was important before but it's really important now."

The couple helped organize the Sarah Street fund raiser. The restaurant will donate ten percent of its profits during the event. "I think it's amazing what Sarah Street has done," smiled Nadine.

Sarah Street server and bartender Heather Doherty is a nursing student. She's going on a mission trip to Haiti next month. She encouraged everyone, "Come in. Have a good night. Get some drinks. Have some food."

In addition to the food and the music there will also be an art sale. It includes pieces made by Haitian children. Money raised from the children's art will help protect kids from exploitation. Nadine said, "They become indentured servants, but really worse than that. They're becoming slaves."

You can help the children and their familes with a night out on the town. There is no cover charge.
