Restaurants to be Demolished for Little League Expansion - Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at 5:10PM EST

Buildings will be demolished in the coming months according to Little League International. It's all the first stage of a long-term plan to make the Little League complex bigger and better.

Two properties along Route 15 in South Williamsport, the King's Inn and Restaurant, as well as Morrone's Restaurant and Lounge, have recently been purchased by Little League International. Soon the buildings on those properties will be demolished to make room for more Little League parking.

Those extra spots will allow the little league's administration building to expand. Sr. Communications Executive Lance Van Auken said, "It's been this size since the 1980's, even though our staff has grown. So we've been cutting offices in half, making multiple offices out of what used to be one."

The two recently purchased properties total about ten acres, and will allow Little League International enough space to construct a 13,000 square foot, five million dollar addition at the east end of the current administration building. "The 13,000 square foot addition that we're looking to put on will include a lot more meeting room, a lot more office space, to account for the new people that we've hired over the years," added Van Auken.

Officials expect the expansion and renovations that will be starting soon, will benefit future events such as Little League International's 75th anniversary, which is coming up in 2014. "We're always looking at ways to make it more fun for fans to be here, easier to get to, easier to have a good time once they get here," he said.

The entire expansion project should take about two years to complete. Little League officials say the buildings on those two properties along Route 15 could be demolished within two months.
