WILKES-BARRE TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY -- Shoppers lined up as early as Thursday afternoon to try and take advantage of the Black Friday savings. Consumer reporter Jeff Chirico spoke to shoppers as they endured the crowds - and the chaos.

When the doors to Best Buy in Wilkes-Barre Township opened at 5am the line outside stretched around the building. TVs, video games, DVD players flew off shelves. This college student picked up two forty inch TVs for less than 500 bucks each. Erik says "it’s great. You could buy normal TV, half the size for this price any other time. Absolutely worth going."

Some shoppers waited as long as 14 hours to get a deal on a laptop from best buy. Next door at staples --this customer only waited two-and-a-half hours to get the similar deal on a computer. Rose Simko of Wilkes-Barre says “when we got here, up to 5am and there weren’t too many people in line." Mike Harlan of Baltimore, Maryland says “I think best buy does more advertising. You're a smarter more strategic shopper? Maybe."

Nearby at Target --aisles were packed with folks getting a jump start on holiday shopping. Brad Meyer, manager of Target, says “we probably had double the mount of guests waiting outside. The excitement was unbelievable." "Two hours after target opened, the end of the checkout line is here...but for these folks to get the register, they have the follow the line around the perimeter of the building."

But that doesn’t matter to this mother-daughter team--Black Friday shopping is about togetherness as much as bargain hunting. Lynn Jasinski of Berwick says “my grandmother started it. Took us shopping for what we wanted after she died we kept carrying it on." Her mother Linda Fetterman of Nescopek says “my sister in law we all meet, shop and eat at olive garden for lunch. Tradition? Yea. Family."
