POCONO PINES, MONROE COUNTY - Volunteers in Monroe County need help to give an old war memorial new life.

Green Tree Service from Canadensis is just one of the groups helping to spruce up the Hungry Hill Memorial in Pocono Pines. The memorial honors soldiers who died from starvation there.

It's where they camped for the winter while General Sullivan led them on a mission to build a trail from Easton to the Wyoming Valley.

Volunteers say the memorial has gradually deteriorated since it was built in the 1940's. The Monroe County Commissioners gave $25,000 to help fix it a few years ago. Workers put in new stone work. Now they need help with landscaping.

Vietnam Veteran Bill Mullen said it's important to help. He explained, "When I came back from Vietnam, people weren't real happy with me and so I just feel that the legacy of soldiers should be a good thing and someone should get this place cleaned up."

If you would like to help or donate money you can call Bill at 570-643-5032.
