FALLS, WYOMING COUNTY- Crews searched in vain for a man in the Susquehanna River Sunday afternoon.

Dive teams and rescue workers were called to a river rescue along the river in Falls, Wyoming County. Police say a man who appeared to have too much to drink told them his friend disappeared into the water.

Crews searched for three hours before they decided it was a hoax. Rescue Team Captain Mike Markovitz said, “We're thinking it's a false alarm. We've got a heavily intoxicated individual who said he saw a person go across the river with him fishing and then tried to swim across the river."

Police say the caller kept changing his story and couldn't tell them how his friend ended up in the river. The caller was taken into custody. Police have not released his name or told us if he'll be in trouble.
