COOLBAUGH TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY - A community honors a man who gave the greatest sacrifice. Part of Route 611 in Coolbaugh Township is now the Troopre Joshua D. Miller Memorial HIghway. The renamed portion of the road is between Main Street and Interstate 380.

Officials unveiled a sign that displayed the new name during a ceremony Thursday morning. Trooper Miller's daughter Justine said, "It's an honor and I know that he would be proud of himself and I'm proud of him."

Miller left behind a wife and three children, including Justine. She said it was tough to stand so near the place where her father was killed. She said, "Even though I wasn't here - images come into your head of like maybe what happened that night."

That night last June Trooper Miller was shot to death in a gun fight. He was protecting a nine year old boy who was kidnapped by his own father. Justine said, "Even though he never met the boy before he protected him."

State Senator Robert Mellow said, "As long as we are here mindful of what has taken place the act will never have gone forgotten or for naught."

Justine said her dad is a hero and so did the more than 100 people who attended the ceremony. Lt. David Dougalas said, "[Josh] wasn't just an outstanding Trooper. He was truly a friend."

When it came time to vote whether or not to name this highway in Trooper Miller's honor every single member of the State House and Senate said yes. State Representative Mario Scavello explained, "Because this is something that goes beyond politics. This is something that will stay with us forever."

It's a road renamed to honor the greatest sacrifice and a sign to help us remember who gave his life in the line of duty.

Trooper Rob Lombardo attended the dedication. He also helped save that nine year old boy. Lombardo was also shot.
