S.S.S.D. Superintendent Suddenly Resigns - Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at 6:00PM EST

HARRISBURG- Eyewitness News has learned of an important development at the Scranton State School for the Deaf. The Superintendent of the school has resigned effective immediately.
Dr. Monita Gara resigned in Harrisburg at a meeting Tuesday. Eyewitness News has learned she was told she was being transferred to Harrisburg. Instead of accepting the transfer she told officials she would resign.

The Scranton State School for the Deaf will be taken over by the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf.

It's a decision that has been hotly contested by students and staff. The school in Lackawanna County has also been renamed.

It will be known as the Scranton School for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children.
