HANOVER TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY- Police in Luzerne County are looking for an arsonist after an SUV was torched within minutes of it being reported stolen in Wilkes-Barre.
Eyewitness News was there as police checked out the crime scene around 7:30 Sunday night in Hanover Township.
Someone abandoned the Chevy Blazer and torched it around 6:30 on an access road. It's down a 100-foot embankment off Route 309 southbound.
Emergency responders weren't sure at first what happened. Hanover Township Police Sergeant Andrew Kratz said, "You don't know if people are in the vehicle or around the vehicle. Luckily for us there was nobody around it. It just appears that the vehicle was here and somebody set it on fire but it's still putting all the emergency responders in harm's way."
A Wilkes-Barre towing company took the fire-gutted vehicle to impound it as evidence. A state police fire marshal will investigate. | |
