SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- Too many clothing collections and too few bell ringers are some of the problems being faced by the Salvation Army in Lckawanna County this holiday season.
Clothing collections to the Army are down by about one million pounds.
Major Joseph White says an organization called 'Planet Aid' has set up its own clothing boxes at locations throughout the county.
Part of the proceeds from the sale of those donated items goes to community development efforts in nations around the world.
The Salvation Army's donations are sold locally to support local charitable programs.
There have also been fewer volunteers to ring the bells for the Salvation Army's annual kettle campaign this year, and fewer stores allowing bell ringers set up in front of their shops.
With just a week and a half left before the Salvation Army's annual Christmas food and toy give away, donations are down by about $2,700. | |
