RANSOM TOWNSHIP, LACKAWANNA COUNTY - A blaze that destroyed one of the old buildings at the West Mountain Sanitarium is being called suspicious.

The fire started just after 4:00 PM Saturday afternoon on Sekol Avenue in Ransom Township.

No one was hurt in the fire. Investigators say the building had been abadoned for more than 30 years. The exact cause of the fire is under investigation, but firefighters say there was no power or utilities to the building.

"We've got a lot of ATV tracks around here, so it could be people on ATVs or homeless, there's nobody here now," Newton Ransom fire chief Jim Richards said.

Firefighters had to truck water to the scene. They are calling the building a total loss.
