Since Americans are expected to spend less this holiday, many of us are looking to make the most of every dollar. So tonight, consumer reporter Jeff Chirico has a few ideas to brighten your Christmas without breaking the bank.
Homemade is almost always cheaper. So tonight we show you some easy to make crafts that will brighten your home in tonight's Santa on a Shoestring. Michael's Arts and Crafts in Wilkes-Barre Township sells all sorts of odds and ends to create homemade decorations and gifts. Liz Buckholtz shows us ideas for under ten dollars. Liz Bucholtz of Michael's says "this is a gold deer. All it is is a bow or a floral pick. You can buy the stuff here or at home. You can add to it...comes under ten dollars."

“Next you have a basket with ornaments in it. They are clear glass balls with rope just wrapped around comes in around 3 dollars a piece." "Do you have to be creative or talented? No you don't. Little bit of glue gun some tape and you're good to go."

"These are candles. They are two dollars a piece. If you have left over ribbon, cards, scrap book paper just wrap around candle and you have a gift for 3 or 4 dollars."

"We have a little mason jar with candy. Which is wonderful for teacher gifts. We carry the mason jars here. If you have a scrap of ribbon at home, pine, these are little wooden shapes that we carry. It's a good project to do with the kids."
