MONTROSE, SUSQUEHANNA COUNTY - Testimony continued Wednesday in the murder re-trial of Doctor Stephen Scher in Susquehanna County. Jurors heard testimony from nine witnesses. The focus went from a possible motive to the crime scene itself.

The third day was full of physical evidence, which prosecutors carried into the courthouse Wednesday morning. Among the items show to the jury were graphic crime scene photos, the alleged murder weapon and even victim Martin Dillon's bloody clothing.

"I'll tell you what, that man that's up there, shot him (Martin Dillon), I'll bet what I own that he shot him," John Demmer said. Demmer was a friend of Dillon's and was one of the first witnesses to take the stand. He testified that Scher was having an affair with Dillon's wife. Prosecutors say the 67-year-old doctor murdered Dillon to re-marry Dillon's wife.

"We had dinner, like we would today you know and I asked him, Marty you don't look good. Is something wrong? Yes he said. That Scher is fooling around with my wife after I come to work. Two days later he was dead," Demmer added.

From there prosecutors moved on to the crime scene itself in 1976, which was a hunting area in Silver Lake Township. Testimony given by State Trooper Frank Zanin, who is now dead, was read back to the jury from the first trial.

Zanin said the crime scene "looked more like staging."

Carol Gazda, one of the first people at the murder scene, also testified saying Scher acted sad when there were other people around but like nothing was wrong when he was alone. "He was very theatrical. Very theatrical," Gazda said after her testimony.

Testimony is expected to continue at 9:00 AM on Thursday morning.
