FRACKVILLE, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY- We're moving through summer but school days aren't far away. A school supply drive has kicked off in Schuylkill County.

It will help financially challenged families stock up on school essentials. "You would think that you're giving a million dollars. They come in, they have smiles and they're very appreciative of it," said Schuylkill United Way Executive Director Kelly Malone.

Fairlane Village Mall is one drop spot for the stuff the bus drive. People are stuffing this ride with pens, pencils, crayons and more. Schuylkill United Way Community Relations Director Tarah Dove said, "If we can get them at an early age to start off right, they have all the things that they need. Schools anymore aren't able to supply them with just the basics."

At the Schuylkill Mall, another van is parked, ready to be filled. This drive is finished July 30th. That's when the goods are delivered.

The United Way says the supplies help some families through tough times. Malone said, "It allows the parents then to purchase other things such as sneakers and clothing and with all three of those combined it gives them a great start to school."

Last year Schuylkill United Way delivered more than 800 backpacks of supplies. It hopes to deliver even more this year.

You can drop off supplies at the Schuylkill, Fairlane and Cressona malls.
