OLYPHANT, LACKAWANNA COUNTY

The Geneva School in Olyphant is one of many beginning their Fall Semester before Labor Day this year.

Geneva is a Christian based school with 50 students in Pre-K through 8th grade. Principal Sharon Davis said "We like to start early because we like to be out of school before the first of June when the kids are just ready to be on vacation."

7th Grader Elizabeth Steele agreed saying "I like start early cause we get out May 30th so we get out really early."

The Fell Charter School is Lackawanna County was the first area school to open for the Fall Semester. It began classes on August 18th. The first week of classes involved half day sessions. The Charter School opens before and closes after other schools in the county.

The start of classes varies from district to district. Students in the Wilkes-Barre Area School District, for instance, report to class on Wednesday, August 27th. Students in the Scranton Area School District go back to class on September 3rd, two days after Labor Day.
