SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- A Lackawanna County woman will spend at least six months in prison for her part in a deadly drunk driving crash.

24-year old Karissa Scullion turned herself in last November and was charged with involuntary manslaughter and driving under the influence. Those charges came from a crash on Chapman Lake Road last August when her passenger, William Puntar, was killed. Scullion was sentenced to spend six and 23 months behind bars.

Prosecutors said Puntar's family has been supportive of Scullion.

Lackawanna County Assistant District Attorney Corey Kolcharno explained "They showed a lot of compassion for Miss Scullion despite the fact that they were dealing with such a tragic loss. So I think it’s very commendable of them. They have embraced her very much and that was part of the judge's decision in keeping it as he did."

Scullion was also ordered to speak to youth groups and repeat offenders about her case in the hope it will serve as a lesson.
