SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY - A worker in the city of Scranton is in legal trouble. Jamie Marciano, who serves as the city's animal control officer, was arrested Thursday.

The charges against Marciano were spelled out in a seven-page criminal complaint. Marciano is facing charges of theft, receiving stolen property and other charges.

Scranton Mayor Chris Doherty says Marciano has been on the city's payroll for more than one year.

According to court papers, Marciano stole a wallet from inside a home on Oakwood Avenue in Scranton Halloween night. Police say Marciano was inside the home trick-or-treating with her children at the time.

Investigators say the 32-year-old tried to use a credit card at four places all over the city of Scranton. She was caught on surveillance video in each location.

According to court papers, investigators say she had her city-issued handheld radio on her while she tried to get money. Also according to court papers, Marciano admitted being in the victim's home and said she started using cocaine about three or four weeks ago.

Before working for the city, Marciano also worked for the Lackawanna County Humane Society.

As for her job in the city, Marciano has been suspended without pay. She's expected back in court later this month for a preliminary hearing.
