SCRANTON LACKAWANNA COUNTY- Scranton City Hall is where most people come to pay their taxes and get permits, but according to police, a worker from inside the city's Department of Licensing, Inspections and Permits is accused of theft.
Joseph Fiorini faces charges for pocketing nearly $500 last month.
Stu Renda, Licensing & Inspections Department Director said, "I talked to Joe directly. He apologized and was very upset. I don't know if he realized the consequences."
Renda immediately called police after making sure the missing money wasn't an accounting error.
Renda said "it was tough to hear that Joe stole the money, but as far as the other employees, everybody was a little hurt."
Fiorini has worked at Scranton City Hall for at least the last decade, but this was not the only time he's been in trouble. Earlier this year, he was suspended for allegedly bilking the city for false expenses."
We went to Fiorini's home in West Scranton for comment Tuesday afternoon, but no one answered the door.
Meanwhile, new safety measures are being put into place at City Hall.
They've installed three security cameras and I.D. key badges outside the main doors
Renda said, "We just wanted to beef it up. We felt there were some improvements we could make..Joe just undercut all those things and it made us realize why we need them."
