SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY

The city of Scranton is moving its latest anti blight efforts into West Scranton.

Mayor Chris Doherty says the city's Code Enforcement Office has come up with a list of 30 delapidated buildings that will be demolished in the city's ongoing anti blight effort. Most involve abandoned houses that have been condemned for health and safety reasons.

Scranton will use its own "in house" demolition crew to tear down the properties.

Mayor Doherty says the program rids the city of problem properties and increases the property values for home owners who live near the delapidated structures. It has already been used in our sections of the city, most recently South Scranton.
