KIRKWOOD, NEW YORK- State Police based in Kirkwood, New York have filed charges of child sexual abuse against a Scranton City Police Officer.

Officer Ted Schmidt faces one charge of sex abuse involving a 16-year-old girl and one count of endangering the welfare of a child.

A Fugitive Warrant was served on officer Schmidt by Pennsylvania State Police on Wednesday. He has been ordered to
turn himself in to State Police in New York by Friday.

Public Safety Director Ray Hayes says that Schmidt has been on extended sick leave. Now he has been suspended without pay because of the charges from New York State.

An internal investigation will be conducted. If the charges are substantiated Schmidt will be dismissed from the city police force.
