SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- Several people are behind bars and more are expected to be arrested after a Section 8 housing scam in Scranton.

The Lackawanna County District Attorney’s Office and investigators from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development have arrested ten individuals. Those arrested are accused of tampering with public records submitted to the Scranton Housing Authority. Investigators said they all claimed to be eligible for Section 8 public housing, but in fact were not.

Lackawanna County District Attorney Andy Jarbola said their actions have harmed others who are in need. "Here they are, ten people; or ten plus people, who are no longer eligible. They are in housing that could be utilized by people who do, in fact, qualify for Section 8 housing" declared D.A. Jarbola.

More arrests on similar charges are expected to be made soon.
