HONESDALE, WAYNE COUNTY- 25-year-old Dean O'Halloran of Scranton turned himself in to State Police in Honesdale on Thursday morning to face charges relating to a head on crash in Wayne County in 2005.
O'Halloran is charged with homicide, homicide by motor vehicle. and aggravated assault. The crash, along Route 590 in Salem Township, Wayne County, claimed the life of Diane Glynn, a professor at the University of Scranton.
A witness told police he had seen O'Halloran's truck weaving on the highway just before the crash. But, according to a State Police news release, that observation alone was not enought information to request that Ohalloran's blood be tested for DUI analysis.
A civil lawsuit filed on behalf of the victim's family revealed that O'Halloran's Blood Alcohol Level was .066 hours after the crash. A limit of .08% is the state's standard for finding a driver legally drunk.
The information provided by the civil action allowed State Police to file the Homicide charges. Ironically, the Statue of Limitations for DUI charges has expired so O'Halloran will not face that charge in connection with the crash.
According to the arrest papers, O'Halloran told investigators he was relieved the police showed up and stated he has not been able to get on with his life since the accident.
O'Halloran was sent to the Wayne County Prison. His bail was set at $50,000 cash. | | |
