SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY

Scranton Mayor Chris Doherty says officials in Boscov's corporate offices tell him their filing for bankruptcy will not affect operations at their store in the Mall at Steamtown. Boscov's is the anchor store of that downtown mall.

Mayor Doherty said he has been told the chain plans to sell ten stores it bought several years ago from the May Development Chain. He says there will be no change in the Boscov's stores located in Northeastern Pennsylvania.

Doherty says the Boscov's family has been very helpful to the city of Scranton. He expects the chain to emerge from bankruptcy stronger than ever.
