SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY - If you're looking for a place to cool off this summer, why not consider Scranton's public pools.

Seven of the city's nine pools opened Saturday afternoon.

Mayor Chris Doherty took his traditional first day plunge at the pool at Nay Aug Park. He says now that school is out, it is the perfect time to enjoy a dip in the water.

"It felt really good. It's nice and cold and refreshing and it wakes people up and I think that's what people should do," Mayor Doherty said. "Let's get out of the beds, lets get out of the chairs, lets get up to Nay Aug Park and all of the other pools that we have in the city of Scranton."

City officials expect to open the Connell Park and Penn Ridge pools after maintenance work is completed in about two weeks.
