SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY -- Some Lackawanna County high school students are in Harrisburg for a special honor. Members of the Scranton Prep Mock Trial Team left Scranton this morning to head to the state capitol rotunda.
The team is being honored for winning the 2010 Pennsylvania Bar Association Mock Trial Competition. The Scranton Prep group was tops among 339-teams who took part in the statewide competition.
Scranton Prep Freshman Ryan Burdick said, "We have about 15-members on our team but only 8 of them act witnesses and lawyers. And they have to do everything that a real lawyer would do with, like, cross examinations, direct examinations and opening and closing arguments."
Sophomore Cara Mannion said, "We're basically like a family and you have to have, like, a lot of work ethic and you have to be really dedicated."
The Scranton Prep Mock Trial Team is one of nearly 50-teams that will take part in a national competition. That competition runs Thursday through Sunday in Philadelphia. | |
