SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- The Scranton School Board voted to raise taxes Monday night.

About 50 people attended the meeting at the John F. Kennedy Elementary School gym.

Some people voiced their displeasure over raising taxes. But the board passed the increase by an 8-1 vote. That means the average tax will increase by about $50 in 2010.

School administrators say the tax increase is needed. Others disagree.

The new tax will go in effect January 1st.
