SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- The Scranton School Board rejected all but one of 7 proposed Keystone Opportunity Zone projects.
The board took public input Saturday morning concerning 7 city businesses and homeowners wanting a 7-year extension of tax-exempt KOZ status.
The board approved just one applicant. Senior Health Solutions already owns a KOZ project -- the Green Ridge Health Center Nursing Home on Boulevard Avenue.
Now, it'll get state and local tax breaks to build a 72-bed assisted living center adjacent to the nursing home. Company President Michael Kelly said, "I'm elated. I'm very grateful that the board looked at my project and I think looked at my past history of developing and the viability of my project."
The Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce criticized the school board for not approving more k-o-z projects -- saying it'll cost the city job-creating opportunities. | |
