SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY -- Tens of thousands of Scranton Sewer Authority customers will soon be paying more for service.

Starting this month customers will pay a flat rate instead of a consumption rate. It'll cost $90 a quarter or $360 a year. It's expected to hit seniors and singles hardest.

The Scranton Sewer Treatment Plant needs at least 40-million dollars in upgrades. As a result the Sewer Authority says homeowners will no longer pay for what they use. Instead everyone will now pay flat rate.
