SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- Scranton Mayor Chris Doherty administered the oath of office to six new police officers during ceremonies at City Hall Wednesday morning.

Anthony Shields, Patrick Perry, John Munley, Brennan McDermott, Nicholas Hurchick, and Robert Hegedus will being their regular duties after completing field training with experienced officers. Their addition brings the total number of policemen to 153.

Public Safety Director Ray Hayes said the increased ranks will allow the city to bring some beat officers back through the Community Development Police Program.

The city will also be administering a test on Saturday for men and women seeking to join the police department in the future.
