Second Arrest in Monroe County Murder

Second Arrest in Monroe County Murder - Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at 5:00PM EST

MOUNTAINHOME, MONROE COUNTY - Police make a second arrest in the case of a murdered crime watch member. Officers say two people worked together to kill Michael Goucher. They arrested Shawn Freemore of Cresco last week. This week they arrested Ian Seagraves also of Cresco.
Ian's mother Kathleen Seagraves said, "Ian's a boy. He's a 17 year old boy." Kathleen was shocked to learn her son was accused of murder. She didn't think he was capable of the crime.

But police think otherwise. Officers say Ian helped his friend Shawn Freemore kill someone earlier this month. Investigators found the victim, 21 year old Michael Goucher, dead in Price Township. He'd been stabbed about 20 times.

Seagrave's attorney said he doesn't believe there's a strong case against his client. Attorney Paul Kramer told Eyewitness News all of the evidence points to Freemore. That teenager allegedly told police he killed Goucher and never mentioned anyone else.

Kramer asked, "If he convinced them, the troopers, that he acted alone, why the charges against Ian right now?"

Cour papers show informants told police Seagraves admitted the murder to friends. Plus police say they found duct tape near the crime scene, that had Seagrave's fingerprints on it. Kramer said, "As far as I'm concerned the incident doesn't include the use of the duct tape. It may have come moving a victim later on."

The lawyer suggested Seagraves learned about the murder after it happened. And may have tried to help his friend cover it up. The accused killers mother has trouble believing the teens did anything wrong. "The boys were acting, just normal," said Kathleen.

And she hopes her son is found innocent. Kathleen said, "Ian we love you and we all miss you and we wish you the very best buddy,"

Seagrave's atttorney told Eyewitness News the teenager has already been in juvenile court twice, once for arson and once involving some type of paraphernalia, but he wouldn't specify.

Eyewitness News also looked up Seagrave's social networking page on MySpace. Many would see it as the page of a disturbed individual. He wrote, "I hear voices that tell me to kill people, hallucinate and get delusional sometimes."

It also said he was feeling kind of crazy after spending time in jail and he didn't want to do anything that would make him have to go back. He added that schizophrenia runs in his family. His MySpace profile tag is ThrOatStabba.
