TAYLOR, LACKAWANNA COUNTY Ð It's the end of an era for the catholic community in part of Lackawanna County.
St. John the Baptish Church on Main Street in Taylor held its final mass Sunday afternoon. Its closing comes one month after Immaculate Conception shut its doors, leaving the borough without a Catholic church.
Eyewitness News spoke to some parishioners of St. John the Baptist who reflected on their fondest memories connected to the 105-year-old church. Joe Vass said, "My four children. So I went through all the communions, the confirmations, the weddings. So it's really, you know, in our hearts."
Madeline Yarima added, "My whole family was born here. My mother and dad helped build the church."
St. John the Baptist, Immaculate Conception and St. Mary of Czestochowa are consolidating at St. Joseph's on Davis Street to form a new parish. | |
