Selinsgrove, Snyder County-
A community pool in Snyder County recently underwent a 40th anniversary facelift.
Friday was supposed to be the pool’s grand re-opening, but would-be swimmers were left high and dry.
One-by-one, people stopped by to sneak a peak at the new and improved Selinsgrove Area Community Pool.
Jenn Baney, of Kreamer, said, “They did very good work cleaning it up. Very impressed.”
But looking was all they could do, as the pool remained full of water, but empty of swimmers.
And we can tell you there were plenty of people excited to see the pool re-open on such a hot, humid day. Unfortunately employees had to spend the afternoon turning patrons away.
Baney recalled, “A couple years ago when we started to come here the sides were all cracked. I mean, it was just really bad. Now it looks really, really nice.”
It took awhile for us to find out why the pool did not open as scheduled. Selinsgrove’s borough manager finally shed some light on the mystery.
We’re told the pool contractor was missing two required tests- a bacteria sample and an electrical test- when the Department of Health came to do its final inspection.
Officials say those tests are being completed this weekend and the pool’s debut is being pushed back to Monday.
People we spoke with were disappointed, but generally understanding, about the delay.
Baney added, “Things happen. No control over it.”
But would she be coming back when the pool opens next week? “Yep,” she replied simply.
The renovations to the pool were accomplished through various grants totaling about $600,000. | | |
