DURYEA, LUZERNE COUNTY

U. S. Senator Arlen Specter said a 3.2 million dollar Federal Contract will help preserve jobs at the Schott North America plant in Duryea.

Senator Specter toured the precision glass manufacturing plant in Luzerne County Monday morning. Schott produces speciality glass equipment used for both military and security efforts.

Senator Specter told Schott workers he was glad to support efforts to maintain their jobs at a time when the national unemployment rate has been on the rise. Senator Spector said that high unemployment rate was one of the reasons he has decided to buck his party's line to support President Obama's proposed stimulus plan. Senator Specter told reporters "One thing we know for sure and that is if we do nothing things will get worse."
