SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY
Democratic Presidential hopeful Senator Barack Obama made a surprise 'breakfast stop" at the Glider Diner in Scranton before beginning a last minute campaign swing through Pennsylvania on Monday.
Seantor Obama had stayed in the 'Electric City' Sunday night after speaking at a rally at the Riverfront Sports Complex.
He shook hands and signed autographs for many of the customers at the diner.
One customer, Larry Perry, stopped the Senator to ask what he planned to do to help veterans. Perry said he was a Viet Nam veteran who is concerned about veteran's issues. Senator Obama told Perry about his desire to make sure all veterans are getting the health care they've been promised and creating facilities so that no veteran need to be homeless. He also spoke about increasing GI benefits. After listening to those and several other comments related to veteran's issues Perry replied, "You have my vote!"
Afterwards, Senator Obama went to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport to resume his campaign tour through the Commonwealth. | |
