Shamokin Fire

Shamokin Fire - Saturday, January 12, 2008 at 11:35PM EST

Reported by: Eric Deabill
Saturday, Jan 12, 2008 @11:35pm EST
No one was hurt in a row home fire that broke out just before 7:00pm Saturday night, however several buildings were destroyed or damaged and six people are now homeless. Firefighters say they also had to rescue one man from the third floor of the home where the blaze began. He was inside sleeping at the time
Firefighters and fire trucks filled north Shamokin Street Saturday night as crews battled a blaze at a row home. Besides the building that burned, two other buildings suffered smoke and water damage. It took firefighters more than 90 minutes to bring the blaze under control. Neighbors say the building that burned formerly served as a shoemaker shop and at first there was concern the fire would spread fast because of how close nearby row homes were.
There is no word what caused tonight's fire in Shamokin, but investigators do not think it was suspicious.
