SHENANDOAH, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY- Four former Shenandoah police officers are free on bail. They won't be returning to the police force but they'll be headed to trial soon.
Former chief Matthew Nestor was released on bail Thursday, some are OK with the decision. Mary Ann from Shenandoah tells Eyewitness News, "I don't think they're any risk of as far of fleeing somewhere and from what i understand Mr. Nestor has a young boy to care for. I think eventually justice will be done."
Nestor waited in jail longer than former officers Jamie Gennarini, William Moyer and Jason Hayes. All four are accused of helping cover up the beating death of Luis Ramirez two summers ago in Shenandoah. Two teens beat the Mexican immigrant who died days later.
The feds say Nestor and the three other officers botched police reports and tried to keep the teens out of trouble. That doesn't sit well with some. Dennis Stanczyk of Shenandoah said, "He should stay in there until this trial then they'll see what's going on I don't see letting them out. How do they know they won't run or something."
Nestor is also charged with extorting money from gambling rings in and around Shenandoah. But some say keeping him in jail won't serve any purpose. Glen Paterson of Shenandoah said, "I think everybody should be allowed to get out before they're found guilty, that's my opinion." | |
