LUZERNE COUNTY- The Luzerne County sheriff says he has nothing to hide and welcomes an F. B.I. Investigation.

The I-Team was first to tell you about cocaine found in a patrol car used by Sheriff Michael Savokinas. Today, he wants to set the record straight. He insists that he is being set up and that dirty politics is at work here.

Sheriff Michael Savokinas says he want the F. B.I to investigate. This case began in April, Savokinas says that he and two of his deputies were leaving a convenience store in Wilkes-Barre, they found a small packet of cocaine on the front floor of the cruiser.

He said he wrote an internal report and sealed the cocaine in an evidence bag. He also says he filed a verbal report with Wilkes-Barre police, and told a county detective about the cocaine. He argues he did not have to file a written report to any outside agency. The D. A.'s office called in the F. B.I.

Today, Sheriff Savokinas fired back at his critics. He calls this a political witch hunt. "There's nothing to follow up on either way unless F. B.I. finds out and quite frankly I wish they would, obviously I feel it was somebody out there. We deal with bad people all say long, this job is political anybody who says politics doesn't play a role It's an absolute lie," he said.

Savokinas admitted he talked with an F. B.I. agent for about an hour an a half on Tuesday. The I-Team will continue to follow this story.
