SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY -- They were looking out for the environment and shredding confidential documents at the same time in Scranton Wednesday.

People armed with boxes of personal papers took part in the first ever "Shred Day on the Square."

"Diamond K" of Scranton offered to shred household files, old bills and confidential papers.

The shredding day also kept a lot of paper out of local landfills. This paper will be recycled. Officials say every ton of paper recycled saves 17 trees.
