Signature Controversy in Luzerne County

Signature Controversy in Luzerne County - Friday, January 29, 2010 at 7:42PM EST

Friday, Jan 29, 2010 @ 07:42pm EST
WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY- The county could soon be facing a major expenses and lawsuits over a signature on legal documents.

The WBRE Eyewitness News I-Team has learned the name of former County Sheriff Michael Savokinas is still on court papers being filed and served in the county. Savokinas resigned last September.

County Prothonatary Carole Medico Olenginski said she is concerned that thousands of documents filed with her office involving cases could be null and void. The cases involve sheriff's sales, custody disputes and lawsuits.

Acting Sheriff Charles Guarneri said the forms were bought in bulk before Savokina resigned. They already contain his name. Olenginski is concerned that if even one person challenges any case or warrant served it could open up the opportunity for legal challenges.
