HAZLETON - Silent Santa provides Christmas gifts to needy children. They rely on donations from the public or businesses to achieve their goal.

But in this shaky economy, more and more families are in need. President and CEO Marylin Kotanski says she has 160 applications already and 30 more families on the waiting list.

Kotanski explains, "We've been seeing ones who helped us last year who are now in need this year due to factories closing down and hours being cut. Just because they still have a job, doesn't mean they're not going to need."

Silent Santa was started 11 years ago by Marylin KotanskiÕs mother. They are a grassroots, volunteer, non-profit organization.
